THE AUDITIONS PROJECT Audition Techniques for Opera Singers Boston, Summer 2001   presented by Susan Ormont featuring renowned guest professionals: Louis Burkot, Artistic Director/Conductor, Opera North (5/29, 30) Michael Capasso, General Director, Dicapo Opera Theatre, New York (5/14, 15) Gayletha Nichols, Exec. Dir., Metropolitan Opera Nat. Council Auditions (6/4, 5) Stephen Steiner, Artistic Administrator, Boston Lyric Opera (6/11, 12) This series of classes aims to address an important and frequently neglected aspect of a singer's training -- the audition. The first class (5/7, 8) will be taught by program director Susan Ormont (Voice Teacher--Boston University, NYC, Bos.; Director, Opera Lirica a Orvieto; past President NY NATS 1997-2000), with subsequent classes to be conducted by renowned professionals in the field of opera. This workshop will focus on evaluating and improving the audition technique of participating singers, as well as provide a forum for general discussion on the topic of the opera audition. All classes will be recorded on video and tapes will be made available for purchase at the end of the program. LIMITED ENROLLMENT FEES ($10 application fee required of participant applicants) Five 3-hours classes, 6:00 - 9:00 pm Series I: Mon May 7, 14, 30 (Wed); June 4, 11 Series II: Tues May 8, 15, 29; June 5, 12 Participant* $300 [students $275] Auditor (10 classes) $100 [students $75] Single Classes (auditors only) $20 [students $10] NEW Location: Boston University, School for the Arts, Concert Hall, 855 Commonwealth Avenue PARTICIPANT APPLICANTS: 1. Please submit $10 non-refundable application fee, résumé, and photo. Preliminary screening auditions will begin ASAP for which a pianist will be provided at no additional cost. 2. Participants will be notified of acceptance ASAP. Upon one's acceptance into the class, a non-refundable tuition deposit of $75 will be due immediately to guarantee a place in the class. The balance of $225 (students $200) will be due at the first class. AUDITOR APPLICANTS: 1. No application fee is required. 2. Auditor applicants need not submit photo and résumé with their applications. The number of participants in each series will be limited to ten. Participants are welcome to audit the series in which they are not participating at no additional charge. If a participant is unable to sing in a class in the series for which he or she has registered, the singer may make arrangements to switch with a participant in the other series.
