SUSAN ORMONT is a voice teacher with a private studio in New York City and in Boston, as well as a member of the voice faculty at the Boston University School of Music and American Repertory Theatre (A.R.T.). During the fall semester of 1994, she also served as a Teaching Associate ad Interim at Boston University, replacing famed singer and teacher Phyllis Curtin during Ms. Curtin's sabbatical. In the academic year of 1994-95, Ms. Ormont taught on the voice faculty for the M.F.A. program offered by The Actors Studio in conjunction with the New School. For many years, in addition to her teaching in the United States, Ms. Ormont has been invited regularly to give master classes at Rotterdams Conservatorium in Holland. From 1997-2000, Ms Ormont served as President of the New York Chapter of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS), after having served as Vice-President for the previous five years.

Ms. Ormont is also founder, coordinator, and teacher of The Auditions Project in New York and Boston, a highly-respected course designed for advanced opera singers and dealing with audition techniques. This popular workshop focuses on evaluating and improving the audition technique of participating singers and provides a forum for general discussion on the topic of the opera audition. It features master classes given by Ms. Ormont as well as by numerous guest professionals who are otherwise inaccessible. In New York, sessions are offered in the fall and spring, and recently summer sessions have been added in New York and Boston.

Since the summer of 1998, Ms. Ormont has served as Artistic Director and teacher of voice at the summer institute Opera Lirica a Orvieto, a program for advanced singers which focuses on the audition package and offers opportunities to perform in Italy. This program is in collaboration with Orvieto Musica, Inc., an international chamber music program.

Ms. Ormont's students have won such prestigious competitions as the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, Concert Artists Guild, Pro Musicis, Joy in Singing, and the International Marian Anderson Vocal Arts Competition. Her article "The Competition Blues," which includes a list of recommendations for competitions as proposed by the Ethics Committee of the New York Chapter of NATS, has appeared in both The NATS Journal and The New York Opera Newsletter. An interview with Ms. Ormont appeared as the cover article of the February 1995 issue of The New York Opera Newsletter, entitled "Auditioning with Assurance, Refinement and SUCCESS!!!".
